The Ciplex Philosophy of Search Engine Optimization: the 3 Cornerstones of Good SEO

For all the search engine tips we get to dispense on our blog, we don’t always have space to get into the “how’s” and “why’s” that make SEO so important, or what the philosophies behind our techniques are. And so, when a client recently asked about some of these issues, we decided it would be a good idea to devote a couple of posts to those subjects.

Here are what we at Ciplex consider to be the three cornerstones of good search engine optimization:

Quality content. It all starts and ends with having material on your website that appeals as much to your human visitors as it does to the search engine spiders that will crawl them. Having the highest-ranked pages on Google, Yahoo, and Bing won’t do a thing for you if it’s meaningless gibberish, which is why quality content is the most important part of your SEO plan.

Constant monitoring and revision. Of course, what you consider to be quality content and what your visitors do isn’t always precisely the same thing. That’s why constant monitoring – through analytics software and other tools – is a must. You don’t just need to know how many people are viewing your pages, but also how long they’re staying, how they’re responding, and what sort of phrases and ideas are getting them to take action. Highly-profitable websites aren’t built once and left alone – they are the result of continuous watching and testing.

Attention to outcomes. If your goal is merely to have people view a few pages on your site, count yourself lucky – the other 99.9% of us need to generate real world currency in order to stay in business. Sometimes, the search engine optimization can seem so complex that it’s easy to forget that the target is to generate sales. Never forget that profits – and looking for them – are an important part of the SEO process.
